However, players also have methods of immediately overwhelming bosses, mostly through the use of buffs, along with powerful spells like Elden Ring’s Comet Azur, which is a laser beam attack known for melting boss health bars. But an over reliance on powerful spells like these can quickly see the tables turn if the boss is not dead by the time they run out.

This is exactly what happened to an unlucky Reddit user named spaghetti_66 who shared a clip of their boss fight against Mohg, Lord of Blood. Usually, this Elden Ring boss is a prime candidate for beating with the Comet Azur spell due to his slow walk towards the player at the beginning of the fight which gives players enough time to sufficiently drain his health bar. Spaghetti_66’s luck changes for the worse, however, after their spell ends with Mohg only a few hits away from death.

What follows is a situation which will be familiar to almost all Elden Ring players, in which the boss drains the player’s entire health bar in seconds while the Reddit user tries desperately to deliver the final few hits needed to kill the boss. To add insult to injury, the final attack Mohg uses against the player is a life stealing bleed attack which increases the boss’ health and shows the player that they weren’t as close to victory as they thought.

Players in Elden Ring and other FromSoftware games often have to fight the urge to run in and finish off the boss once its health bar gets low, as victory in Elden Ring is never assured and luck can quickly turn against the player. The Reddit user didn’t have the chance to get into the flow of Mohg’s boss fight, and so when they suddenly found themselves fighting with a sword in the closing stages of the fight, the chance for victory quickly slipped away.

This is no great loss for the player, however. It’s only a short run back to Mohg’s boss arena, and another boss melting attack with the Comet Azur spell to get the Reddit user right back into the final stages of the boss fight. Only this time, they will have been reminded that even the most OP boss cheesing strategies in Elden Ring require a backup plan.

Elden Ring is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
