Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, recently sat down for an interview at Game Reactor where he discussed many topics facing Xbox and the Xbox Series X in the coming generation. When asked if Spencer could see Xbox Game Pass ever coming to a Nintendo or PlayStation platform, Spencer stated that while he loves what those companies have been doing, he’s not quite sure that those “are the next big set of users for us.” However, Spencer then went on to say that the Xbox team would be open to discussions with those companies.

Spencer also stated that for Xbox, priority and reach are what’s most important. According to this interview, it seems that the next platform that Spencer is focused getting Xbox Game Pass on is iOS. Xbox has faced several roadblocks over the past few months as it has attempted to launch Game Streaming (also known as Project xCloud) on Apple devices. Apple has shot many of these attempts down, however, causing the Game Pass feature to currently be available on Android devices exclusively.
These comments by Spencer appear very consistent with Xbox’s business strategy over the past few years. Xbox has remained committed to its Play Anywhere initiative, where players can purchase first-party Xbox titles on console or PC and receive the other version at no additional cost. Play Anywhere also supports both cross-progression and cross-play between consoles and PC’s, which is an idea and practice that Xbox will continue going into the next generation with the Xbox Series X and Series S.
